04.17.07

U2 singer Bono met German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a private meeting in Berlin this morning. The talks focused on the G8's poor performance in keeping their aid promises to Africa.

After the meeting Bono said, "The Chancellor knows the details of what Germany and the G8 promised to Africa and she is working on a plan to keep these aid promises. She is a wise woman. She understands that we face a crisis of credibility if these promises are not kept."

On 15 May, DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa) will release the DATA Report 2007, a detailed analysis of G8 progress on aid, debt, trade and other commitments to assist African development.
